South Africa’s first LNG cargo received by DNG

South Africa’s energy market witnessed an historic moment as company DNG Energy (DNG) received the country’s first ever liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Rotterdam, Netherlands.

As part of a seven-year, $5bn investment in alternative energy infrastructure, the development comes ahead of commissioning of DNG’s first floating storage unit delivery in Q1 of 2022.

Calling it an ‘inflection point’ for South Africa’s energy market, Aldworth Mbalati, CEO, DNG, said, “Along with renewables like wind and solar, the new generation of gas technology brings low-cost power production capabilities to the market on a massive scale.”

“LNG represents an excellent alternative that will help cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduce air pollution and help combat global warming,” he added.
