Following funding from the African Development Fund, South Sudan has seen its first oxygen plant installed at Juba Teaching Hospital as a response to the country’s ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Initiated by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the project will see the plant generating 2,500 litres of oxygen per day and the ability to refill around 72 D-type oxygen cylinders daily.
The $980,000 plant will include 240 oxygen cylinders, in addition to the procurement and construction costs.
Commenting on the new facility, Elizabeth Achuei, Health Minister, South Sudan Government, said, “South Sudan will no longer be importing oxygen from neighbouring countries, and this means oxygen will be supplied to facilities on time and more lives will be saved.”
