Sri Lanka naval ship reaches Colombo with medical oxygen from India

The Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Shakthi has arrived at the port of Colombo, Sri Lanka, with approximately 40 tonnes of medical grade oxygen after departing for Chennai, India on 17th August 2021.

After picking up the shipment from India, the vessel docked at Colombo at midnight on 22nd August 2021.

Ordered by Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the shipment was arranged by the Sri Lankan Navy to supply its citizens with medical oxygen to help combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the crisis still ongoing, SLNS Shakthi is to set sail again tomorrow (24th August) for the port of Chennai for another shipment of oxygen.
