Air Products, the world’s largest supplier of gases to the electronics industry, is looking for acquisitions to expand its strong presence in this market.
Industrial gases are used by companies that make semiconductors and liquid crystal displays and the company is already the number one supplier in South Korea and Taiwan, though it does not seem content to relax on this status and is looking for further growth and investment.
Paul Huck, chief financial officer, noted in an interview with Reuters, “Our electronics and performance materials business would be a prime area, where we are looking for acquisitions to broaden the product (offering) and markets, which we serve.”
Air Products is currently constructing its nitrogen trifluoride plant in Ulsan, South Korea which will cater for the semiconductor and LCD markets in the region. The plant is expected to be ready by March or April 2008, according to Huck.
