Messer have signed an agreement with Lonza, one of the leading suppliers of pharmaceutical, health and life sciences products and services, to build an air separation plant in Switzerland.
The industrial gas specialist is continuing to strengthen its position in Europe and will invest up to €20m in the plant at Lonza AG in the Swiss region of Wallis. The plant will produce oxygen, nitrogen and argon for Lonza and the Swiss and Italian markets, as well as medical oxygen for the hospital and home care sector.
The unit will be constructed by plant construction company Cryogenic Engineering, a joint venture of Messer and the largest Chinese producer of air separation plants, HangYang Ltd. Scheduled to start operating in late 2008, Lonza will be responsible for operation and logistics on behalf of Messer.
Messer Switzerland now has an independent supply of products for the industrial gas market in Switzerland for the first time and one striking feature of this air separation plant will be its comparatively considerable energy efficiency.
