Technip Energies to supply its first blue hydrogen plant to South Korea

Low-carbon energy and technology company Technip Energies will supply a blue hydrogen plant to South Korea’s largest chemical company, LG Chem.

Equipped with a capacity of 56,000 Nm3/h (normal cubic metres per hour), the plant will harness the steam methane reforming (SMR) process to convert methane-rich off gas from the naphtha cracking process into hydrogen. 

Producing CO2 as a by-product, the plant will be fitted with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to reduce emissions at the facility. 

By integrated a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) unit, operators are easily able to control harmful nitric oxide (NOx) emissions.
