Titan, Attero, and Nordsol gain €4.3m funding for bio-LNG plant

The triumvirate of energy companies are part of a project known as FirstBio2Shipping, an effort to decarbonise maritime transport by developing a plant that aims to produce 2.4 tonnes of bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas) per year.

Located at the facilities of one of the partners involved, Attero, in Wilp, the Netherlands, the FirstBio2Shipping project have received €4.3m from the EU Fit for 55 packages and will supply the low-carbon fuel through existing infrastructure, mitigating further carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that would have been emitted through infrastructure development.

In addition to bio-LNG, the facility will also produce 5,000 tonnes per year of liquid bio-CO2.

The partners will contribute to each stage of the project: 6m Nm3 (normal metre cubed per hour) of biogas per year will be supplied by Attero from domestic biowaste, which will then be upgraded and liquefied into bio-LNG by Nordsol, before Titan, the long-term off-taker supplies the renewably sourced energy to the maritime industry.
