Danish decarbonisation specialist Topsoe has been selected by Brasil BioFuels to provide its Hydroflex and H2bridge technologies for a new biorefinery in Manaus, Brazil, that will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The facility will oversee the country’s first foray into the production of SAF – a fuel which can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel.
By integrating Topsoe’s hydroprocessing technology with the plant, the biorefinery will be able to simultaneously produce SAF while recycling gases and liquids from the process for production of hydrogen to be used to power the operation.
Commenting on the company’s involvement in the project, Gustavo Cienfuegos, Managing Director at Topsoe, Latin America, said, “We are thrilled to be selected as technology provider by Brasil BioFuels for their ambitious plans of introducing SAF and second generation biofuels to the Brazilian market.”
