Toshiba Corporation, a multinational Japanese conglomerate, has unveiled Japan’s largest alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen (H2) production system.
According to the company, the generator produces approximately 100 Nm3 per hour of H2 – enough to completely fill two fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).
Utilising an alkaline solution at the electrolyte in the H2 producing chemical reaction removes the need to expensive metals in the system’s electrodes, thus creating a cheaper output capacity.

Hiroyuki Ota, General Manager of Toshiba’s Energy Systems & Solutions Company, noted, “In recent years, H2 power has started to prove its value, as can be seen in the increasing use of stationary fuel cells, FCVs and H2 power generation. This is stimulating demand for high capacity H2 production systems in locations like H2 fuelling stations, and for efficient power utilisation on mega solar power plants and wind farms.”
