With growing CO2 emissions globally and showing an alternative to fossil fuel-powered cars, Toyota unveiled a hydrogen fuel cell-powered car at the Indian Auto Expo 2016 show held recently in National Capital Region (NCR) near Delhi.
The Toyota’s Mirai is driven by a synchronous AC motor that produces up to 152 horsepower and 335Nm of torque, and is based on the power control unit of the Toyota Prius, with the PUC deciding when to draw energy from battery or from the fuel cell stack directly.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s has rated the four door sedan as the most fuel efficient hydrogen-powered vehicle, while the car has also received support from the Japanese government to support the commercialisation of fuel cell technology.
Now, the car – which features a capacity of 122.4 litres of hydrogen and can achieve a speed of 100km per hour within nine seconds – has been unveiled in India for the first time.
