Offshore drilling company Transocean will use its Transocean Enabler semi-submersible drilling rig to drill a carbon injection well to support the Northern Lights Carbon Capture Storage Project (Northern Lights).
The project, a joint venture created by Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies, aims to decarbonise the atmosphere using the EU’s first cross-border, open-source carbon dioxide (CO2) transport and storage infrastructure network.
Designated a Project of Common Interest by the EU, Northern Lights will offer companies across Europe the opportunity to safely and permanently inject CO2 into the wells drilled by the Transocean Enabler.
Commenting on the project, Janelle Daniel, Vice President of Human Resources, Sustainability and Communications, Transocean, said, “We are proud to participate in this important carbon capture and storage project in support of the EU’s energy policy and climate objectives.”
