Turkey’s green machines

A solar-powered car and another vehicle that runs solely on hydrogen have been introduced in Turkey recently, being sent into the busy Istanbul traffic following a launch ceremony at the Cevahir mall.

The vehicles, named Barracuda and Hydar, were sent into the traffic accompanied by police vehicles and completed their tour at Galatasary University.

The aim is to acquaint the public with alternative energy resources and its uses, according to a spokesperson from the student group that built the cars, at Yildiz Technical University.
Yasemin Arikan, president of the YTU-GESK student group, noted that the project was meant to generate public awareness of alternative energy at a time when global warming is at the forefront of the agenda.
