The UK Government has pledged £25m ($31m) funding for innovative new technologies that will support clean energy production in the UK as part of a total £102m ($126m) commitment.
Announced today (13th Dec), £25m worth of funding from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will go towards development of technologies capable of producing hydrogen from sustainable biomass and waste, while removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.
In addition to supporting clean energy production in the UK, the financial commitment also aims to increase energy security following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier in the year.
Funding will go towards accelerating the deployment of hydrogen bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) – a negative emissions technology used to permanently remove waste from the atmosphere by absorbing CO2 during the growth of the sustainable biomass and the organic content.
