Update for international standards on oxygen cleaning

Two international standards that provide guidance and best practices for oxygen cleaning have been updated.

The Compressed Gas Association (CGA) and the European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) who previously agreed upon general cleaning philosophies but differed in their definition of cleanliness levels have now harmonized their cleanliness requirements to simplify international standards.

Maintaining cleanliness of components in contact with oxygen is essential to avoid ignition of components or systems. Although oxygen is not flammable, the gas supports and accelerates combustion of most materials used in oxygen systems.

The two standards have now been harmonised to simplify standards internationally through CGS G-4.1 and EIGA IGC 33-18.
