US Steel, Equinor join forces on CCS and hydrogen technologies

United States Steel Corporation and Equinor US will study the potential for carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen development in the tri-state region of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The duo on Tuesday (29th June) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) through which they will assess both the technological and commercial possibilities for the technologies to achieve decarbonisation goals.

Further detailing such plans, United States Steel and Equinor US said they will carry out assessments of regional hydrogen and CCS potential, appropriate customer and supplier screenings, blue hydrogen advocacy, CCS, and examining of renewable energy synergies.

Richard Fruehauf, Senior Vice-President, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer, commented, “The successful development of hydrogen and CCS technology in the tri-state region will require investment, cooperation, and exploration across political and perceived barriers.”
