Wärtsilä advances energy transition with upgrading tech for new bioLNG plant

Technology group Wärtsilä is speeding up the ongoing energy transition by supplying a biogas upgrading and liquefaction solution for a new biogas plant in Sweden.

Once fully integrated, the plant will upgrade biogas captured from municipal waste and wastewater treatment plants, turning it into useful BioLNG (liquefied natural gas) and biomethane that will reduce carbon emissions from transport.

The order for Wärtsilä’s upgrading technology was placed by energy company St1 and will be located at the Borås Energi och Miljo facility at Sobacken, near the city of Borås.

Stating that the company is committed to enhancing the production of sustainable energy, Matti Oksanen, Director of St1’s Gas Business, added, “We already operate Wärtsilä’s biogas upgrading in Sweden and are happy to continue cooperation with the new liquefaction project.”
