Australian ferry firm Ro-Pax has selected Wärtsilä as its choice of engine and fuel gas supply systems for its two new vessels.
Renowned Australian ferry fleet owner and operator TT-Line Company placed the order with Wärtsilä in June 2021. The ships are being built in Finland at the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) yard.
The new 212-metre-long liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered ferries will add to TT-Line’s current fleet of two vessels, Spirit of Tasmania I and Spirit of Tasmania II, both of which use Wärtsilä engines and travel between Melbourne, Victoria and Devonport, Tasmania.
Speaking about the development, Bernard Dwyer, Chief Executive Officer, TT-Line, said, “Since 2002 when the current vessels were inducted into our fleet, the Wärtsilä engines have delivered both performance and reliability backed by strong serbice and technical support.”
