Woodside Energy and LanzaTech form CCUS alliance

Woodside Energy has this week (24th Oct) struck a deal with US-based LanzaTech to develop a number of pilot carbon capture facilities and convert greenhouse gas emissions into new products.

Plans for the sustainable technology are part of a strategic framework agreement that seeks to open new applications for LanzaTech’s technology that has the potential to reshape waste management systems.

Aside from developing new carbon capture sites and upcycling carbon dioxide, the pair have also entered into a subscription agreement through which Woodside will make a $50m investment in AMCI Acquisitions Corp, a firm with which LanzaTech is expected to merge.

Meg O’Neill, CEO of Woodside, said she anticipates increased demand for carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology in future.
