Work has begun at British Columbia’s large-scale commercial facility which will produce transportation fuel out of atmosphere carbon dioxide (CO2) with Carbon Engineering’s direct air capture (DAC) technology.
The Canadian company last week (14th Oct) announced that, with its partners, The Upper Nicola Band and Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, preliminary engineering and design has started at the plant which could deliver up to 100 million litres of ultra-low carbon fuel each year.
Following the announcement, it is expected that physical construction will begin in 2023, with operations targeted to commence approximately three years after that. Once fully assembled, the plant is expected to occupy 100 acres of commercially designated land.
Carbon Engineering’s AIR TO FUELS™ technology will play a leading role at the plant. A key offering for the company AIR TO FUELS removes CO2 directly from the atmosphere at large scale and produces ultra-low carbon intensity fuels.
