Xebec, Summit in $100m deal for ‘world’s largest’ CCS project

Sustainable gas technology manufacturer Xebec Adsorption Inc. (Xebec) will supply 51 carbon dioxide (CO2) reciprocating compression packages to SCS Carbon Removal LLC (SCS) – a subsidiary of Summit Carbon Solutions – to be used for what could become the world’s largest carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, the Midwest Carbon Express – SCS’ $4.5bn (£3.4bn) ambition to connect 31 ethanol plants through pipelines in the Upper Midwest.

Announced yesterday (March 28th), the $100m (£76.5m) agreement is currently an expression of interest and there is no certainty that the negotiations will lead to a final binding order. 

Set to take advantage of a rapidly expanding US customer base for its sustainable gas technologies, Xebec will manufacture the compression packages at its Colorado facility and aims to work closely with SCS to manage cash flows and supply chain risks. 

The scope of the project encompasses the reduction of CO2 emissions for the Midwest’s agricultural sector, in addition to allow the creation of new economic opportunities for ethanol producers.
