Yara cooperates with Johnson Matthey

YARA International ASA reports that it is making its nitrous oxide catalyst available to the chemical industry and has signed an agreement with Johnson Matthey Plc, Noble Metals for cooperation on sales and marketing of the technology.

The technology to cut emissions of the climate gas nitrous oxide from existing nitric acid plants was developed at Yara’s Research Centre in Porsgrunn, Norway. The technology makes it possible to reduce emission levels in nitric acid plants by 70 per cent to more than 90 per cent.

The arrangement is exclusive, and takes effect immediately.

The catalyst has been installed in Yara’s own nitric acid plants in France with proven emissions reduction capability and long life of operation, and will be installed in Yara’s nitric acid plants worldwide as part of the company’s continuous drive for clean and safe operations.
